Throwback Thursday #6 Travel With Me Book

A look back at the Sketchbook Project 2012, where I participated with the theme Travel With Me.
It was a really good experience and fun to take part of something this big.

This short video shows the original sketchbook and the book it eventually became, now available on Amazon.

Travel With Me video on Youtube

I got a video together to showcase my sketchbook and book Travel With Me.

The first part is the Sketchbook Project 2012, which I took time to film before sending it off to the Art House Co-op, and the second part is the little book I made from that sketchbook, adding notes and anecdotes to the images.

Be sure to Like it, leave comments, and share it if you can.

Book Layout For My Sketchbook Project

Having scanned all the pages of the Sketchbook Project before sending it off to Brooklyn, I've been working on getting these pages formatted for a soon to be Print-On-Demand book. This weekend, I'm getting final details in place for the inside pages ... almost there. Next, the cover.

Here's what I've got so far:

Finished Sketchbook Project 2012

Wow! My Sketchbook Project is FINISHED!!!
I'll be mailing it out back to Brooklyn, NY this Friday ... it feels a little funny to send it off now, after all this work.
Here are the last two images left to post: the complete parting shot and the colored cover.

All pages have been scanned for my personal archives, and will be assembled into a book soon. More details as that project comes into being.

Sketchbook Project Parting Shot

This is the Sketchbook Project 2012 parting shot: a well deserved local meal after all that walking about, and my personal favorite, the Mushroom Onion Galette!

Illustration Friday theme: Prepare

Traditional food is best prepared in the, well, traditional way.

We found a Creperie recently and I was very excited to see "galette" on the menu -basically, a crepe with buckwheat instead of wheat flour, giving it a very particular taste.

The "galette" I was served was very good certainly, just not what I consider a galette. I could tell this was not a pure buckwheat batter.
Asking the waitress, I was indeed told the cook mixes buckwheat and regular wheat in their batter ... ???

Ok, great, but then don't call it a "Galette" !

Sketchbook Project page 14 With Color

I finished the ink of page 14 and threw in a touch of color.
I'm thinking the building on the left needs to be a little more in shadows, so a couple details here and there is probably in order to call this one really finished -that and a page title of sorts.

Project deadline is looming on the horizon ...

I'm also going to add this one and the last 2 or 3 images to the Squidoo Lens. Check it out.

sketchbook Project 2012 page 14 Mont Saint Michel Street

The deadline for this project is looming ahead, only three weeks from now.
This is the next to last page of the book, with still a few details here and there to do with text information, websites, page titles, etc., to be added.

This afternoon I did the pencil layout and started on the inking for page 14, a very narrow street at the Mont Saint Michel, from one of my own photos.

Sketchbook Project 2012 page 13 Inked

I said I would finish this project by the end of the year ... hmm, with Christmas coming up and the end of the school year, I've been busy with other things.
Still, I just finished inking page 13, a view from within the Mont Saint Michel, with only 2 pages left ... yeah!

Sketchbook Project page 13 Mont Saint Michel

Took a little break on all the projects for the Thanksgiving holidays, and now I am motivated to finish this one before Christmas ... so, better get to it.

This is the sketched layout for page 13, a view from within the Mont Saint Michel, to be finished in markers.

Sketchbook Project 2012 Cover

Back on the Sketchbook Project... working on the cover design and text pages, namely title page and other information I want to include.

Below is the cover minus the lettering, which is what I'm about to do next along with coloring, most likely in the form of color pencil. Recognize the car? Yep, there it is again...
I do plan on adding some sort of protection finish once completed.
On the home stretch with this project... yeah!
Only 3 or 4 pages left.

Sketchbook Project page 12 the Mont in Color

The Mont Saint Michel, finished with watercolor. I am resonably satisfied with the result... I tend to "color" rather than "paint" per se, being more of a cartoonist and illustrator than painter, so I'd say I did pretty good.

Illustration Friday theme: Scary.
Don't know about you, but I think this might have been a somewhat scary place to live in during medieval times, what with the weather, the sea, the cold and humidity, and the constant potential for assault by various factions.
I'm very glad to visit the place today though, and would love to stay the night at least once, preferably during high tide, to get the full effect of being surrounded by the sea.

Sketchbook Project page 10 map

The transition map page going from St. Malo to the Mont Saint Michel.

This also fits this week's Illustration Friday theme: Fuel.
My parents had a 2 CV (2 Chevaux; i.e. 2 horses) for a while, and it was the most fun car to drive ever. It was also very fuel efficient. At the time it would take $5 to fill up the tank, and that seemed to last forever.

The 2 CV Citroen

The 2CV Citroen is like no other in the history of the car, and if you've ever had the chance to drive one, you'll remember it for the rest of your life.

This will become part of a collage map page for my Sketchbook Project 2012.

Sketchbook Project 2012 Mont Saint Michel

As this section of my Sketchbook Project is now all about the Mont Saint Michel, a complete view of this marvel is due before setting foot inside.

This is my pencil drawing, finished just moments ago.

Sketchbook Project 2012 page 11 Finished

Finished page 11 of the Sketchbook Project: that's the Mont Saint Michel in the backdrop, where we're headed next.
This is a somewhat less "serious" illustration compared to the previous two and more in the vain of fun comic book type, which is fine, as it does provide a variety of style and approaches for this little book.

I'll most likely be working on page 10 next, the map page, and choosing my next pictures as we get closer to the Mont Saint Michel.
